Ram Charan's movie "Peddi" witnessed a sharp drop of 62.5% on Day 5, that is the first Monday, earning Rs 12.05 crore compared to the Rs 32.15 crore on Sunday, from 7,905 shows, as per Sacnilk data. By Day 5, it has crossed the Rs 201.92 crore mark in domestic gross and netted Rs 169.70 crore. With the international market adding Rs 47 crore, the five-day worldwide gross collection has hit Rs 248.92 crore.
The performance trajectory is quite similar to most big-budget pan-Indian releases that open on Thursday. They take full advantage of the four-day extended weekend (aside from Wednesday evening paid previews), and generate huge front-loaded revenue and then take a big dip on Monday.
There are, however, exceptions which did massive numbers even on the first Monday. In the case of "Peddi", however, the 62.5% dip could be due to the heavy online controversy surrounding the portrayal of lead actress Janhvi Kapoor and the overall melodramatic storytelling. But audience curiosity seemingly helped the film achieve these massive initial numbers.
"Peddi" has served as a massive box office reclamation for Ram Charan. Its domestic earnings have already outpaced those of its previous release, "Game Changer", in just 5 days. "Game Changer" faced production delays and received mixed reception, ending its theatrical run at an underwhelming Rs 131.20 crore in India. Conversely, "Peddi" generated colossal momentum right out of the gate. The Rs 169.70 crore net total has firmly re-established Ram Charan's standalone box-office pull, though it falls below his multi-starrer epic "RRR".
It is essential to isolate "Peddi" from "RRR". The latter was an unprecedented cinematic anomaly driven by the brand power of director S.S. Rajamouli and the dual-lead powerhouse combination of Ram Charan and Jr. NTR. "Peddi" represents Ram Charan's solo commercial pull as a single lead star. Compared to Ram Charan's previous solo hit "Rangasthalam", "Peddi" has already outperformed the Sukumar film in India and abroad. Notably, Sukumar is one of the producers of "Peddi".
