"Drishyam 3" has proven itself a strong contender at the Kerala box office, with an impressive hold even in its second week. The Jeethu Joseph-directed third entry in the popular mystery movie franchise just completed its first week domestic run with a solid Rs 81 crore in net earnings, and then proceeded to wrap up its second three-day weekend with a total of Rs 14.75 crore from more than 2,400 shows.
The second Friday registered 34.8% occupancy, followed by 38.7% and 43.5% occupancy on the second Saturday and second Sunday, respectively. In terms of worldwide gross (Rs 222 crore), it currently trails other blockbusters like "Vaazha II", "Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra" and "Thudarum". Interestingly, "Drishyam 3" earned more than "Thudarum" on Day 11 — Rs 5.35 crore > Rs 4.85 crore.
However, there's a slight difference. Day 11 was Monday in the case of "Thudarum". In terms of the global total, "Thudarum" is currently ahead of "Drishyam 3", with a gross of Rs 235.38. But the new Mohanlal film is expected to replace it in the span of this week itself. It needs a little over Rs 10 crore to do that. Before that, it will also outperform "Vaazha 2" (Rs 233 crore). "Drishyam 3" also has the lifetime totals of "Manjummel Boys", followed by "L2: Empuraan" and "Lokah to beat.
While beating "Lokah" may seem a bit unrealistic at the moment, the possibility of the Mohanlal film dethroning "Manjummel Boys" and his own "L2: Empuraan" seems more likely if the film continues its box office journey at the same pace in the next couple of week, at least for its month-long run. "Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra" holds the prestigious crown of the first and only Malayalam film to officially breach the Rs 300 crore mark globally so far.
