From webtoon to screen: The story behind Netflix's new K-drama 'Teach You a Lesson'

Director Hong Jong-chan, the show's principal cast includes Kim Moo-yul, Lee Sung-min, Jin Ki-joo, and Pyo Ji-hoon

No matter how many school dramas come and go, there will always be room for more — provided they have something new to offer. Here comes Netflix's new Korean drama series "Teach You a Lesson", set for premiere on June 5, 2026.

Touted as an action-packed series, the series is based on the popular webtoon "True Education" (also known as "Get Schooled"), which addresses school violence through the lens of a fictional government agency authorised to use aggressive physical force against bullies.

Director by Hong Jong-chan ("Juvenile Justice", "Her Private Life") from a script by Lee Nam-kyu ("Daily Dose of Sunshine"), the series' principal cast members include Kim Moo-yul as Na Hwa-jin (reuniting with Director Hong from "Juvenile Justice"), Lee Sung-min as Choi Gang-seok, Jin Ki-joo as Im Han-rim, and Pyo Ji-hoon (P.O) as Bong Geun-dae.

The aforementioned fictional government agency is the Teachers’ Rights Protection Bureau. When school bullying, toxic parents, or corrupt systems cross the line, this highly trained team steps in. Instead of traditional counselling, they use "unconventional tactics" — meaning they actively fight back physically to restore order and protect victims.

Given Hong Jong-chan's track record of blending sharp societal commentary with engaging action or emotional stakes, expectations are incredibly high for “Teach You a Lesson”.

A highly respected South Korean television director known for handling complex social issues, intense workplace dynamics, and emotionally resonant character dramas, Jong-chan has, over the past decade, helmed several critically acclaimed and commercially successful series across major networks and global streaming platforms, such as "Juvenile Justice", "Mr Plankton" and "Her Private Life".
