Director RJ Balaji's "Karuppu" has officially entered the list of the top 10 highest-grossers in Tamil Nadu, after fetching a regional total of Rs 144.05 crore, according to Sacnilk figures. The Suriya-starrer earned itself a place in this list after an excellent third-weekend performance. It has now surpassed other biggies like "Ponniyin Selvan 2" and "Varisu" in the list. It is currently the 9th highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu.

With Rs 3.73 crore on the third Friday, Rs 5.93 crore on the third Saturday, and Rs 6.78 crore on the third Sunday, "Karuppu" earned a cumulative third-weekend total of Rs 16.44 crore, as per numbers reported by Sacnilk.

This is undoubtedly an impressive number as far as third-weekend performances are concerned. Most recent big star-driven films from India slowed down after the second week. "Karuppu", however, has demonstrated a superb hold even in the beginning of its third week owing to strong word-of-mouth.

This exceptional trajectory also shows that mixed reviews from critics haven't affected these numbers, as the film has already proven its popularity among regular moviegoers, especially in the B and C centres, who have taken a liking to the fantasy/mythology-driven elements and the 'vigilante hero' narrative in it.

It also brought back Suriya in an avatar that his fans wished to see after over a decade, following a recent string of underwhelming efforts like "Kanguva" and "Retro". (The only exception remains “Soorarai Pottru”, but it was an OTT release.) It is now officially the actor's highest-grossing film of all time, beating "Singam 2".

Combined with the 78.25 crore overseas gross and the 210.99 crore domestic gross so far, the global total of "Karuppu" stands at 289.24 crore. Given this remarkable pace, the 300 crore club entry is guaranteed!

It is also the first film in Suriya's career to cross the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide in under a single week. It also marks Suriya's first project to net over Rs 100 Crore in India and gross over Rs 100 Crore in Tamil Nadu alone. Moreover, the film made history by being the highest Suriya grosser in Kerala, too.
