Over two days, "Mortal Kombat II' has fetched good numbers in Indian theatres, performing significantly better than its 2021 predecessor. Its two-day net domestic collection comes up to Rs 3.55 crore, which is nearly triple the amount earned by "Mortal Kombat" at the time of its release.
However, we must take into account the fact that the previous film was impacted by the pandemic, aside from the simultaneous streaming release on HBO Max. Compared to this, the sequel has the advantage of a wide theatre-exclusive release.
The sequel's first-day collection alone (Rs 1.40 crore) is nearly double that of the 2021 reboot. The same goes for the film's performance in its home turf. In the U.S., the sequel's opening day gross of $17 million (including previews) was almost double the first film’s $9 million Friday collection. Within three days, it has reached a total worldwide box office collection of $25.9 million.
Unlike its predecessor, "Mortal Kombat II" benefits from running across 4,543 screens on its first day and is backed by a massive distribution network, including premium formats like IMAX 2D and 4DX. Sacnilk figures report that on Day 2, it registered a 53.6% increase.
The sequel is also reportedly seeing a solid response in the regional version, with the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions witnessing a higher occupancy (15%) compared to the English and Hindi versions.
Compared to other high-profile Hollywood releases in 2026, though, "Mortal Kombat II" trails behind. It is currently competing with new releases such as "The Devil Wears Prada 2", which, despite being in its second week, earned Rs 1.20 crore on its second Friday — that's almost close to the Rs 1.40 crore first-day numbers of "Mortal Kombat II".
Headlined by Karl Urban ("The Boys"), Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, and Hiroyuki Sanada, among others, "Mortal Kombat II" is directed by Simon McQuoid and co-produced by James Wan and Todd Garner, with a script by Jeremy Slater.
