Box Office Report: 'Raja Shivaji' becomes fastest Marathi film ever to enter the 50 crore club, fourth highest regional grosser of all time

Riteish Deshmukh's "Raja Shivaji" has been declared a box office hit after earning 50 crores in a week. It's currently the fastest Marathi-language film to hit the 50 crore milestone, in net earnings.

The historical action epic, which also stars Riteish and his wife Genelia, alongside Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and Salman Khan in a cameo, may look smaller in comparison to the box office successes of big-scale Hindi-language or South Indian productions, but, for a regional production, it has managed to shatter every existing benchmark for Marathi cinema.

Already the fourth highest-grossing Marathi of all time, "Raja Shivaji" is currently eyeing the lifetime gross of Riteish's "Ved" (Rs 61.2 crore), "Baipan Bhari Deva (Rs 76.28 crore), and "Sairat" (Rs 110 crore).

The film has reportedly recovered over 70% of its estimated Rs 75+ crore budget within its first six days. However, the film isn't doing as well with the Hindi-speaking audiences as with the Marathi viewers. Although the occupancy of the Marathi version maintains a strong 25–30% occupancy into its second week, the Hindi version observed a softer response with roughly 10–13% occupancy, naturally indicating its primary appeal is confined to the Marathi-speaking audience. But when considering Marathi cinema alone, "Raja Shivaji" is a once-in-a-decade blockbuster.

It has achieved a total worldwide gross collection of approximately Rs 66.30 crore. The film's revenue generation is primarily driven by its domestic performance.

As of now, the top 5 highest-grossing Marathi films of all time in terms of worldwide gross are:

1) Sairat (2016) - Rs 110 crore

2) Baipan Bhari Deva (2023) - Rs 92 crore

3) Ved (2022) - Rs 75.5 crore

4) Raja Shivaji (2026) - Rs 66.30 crore (and counting)

5) Natsamrat (2016) - Rs 46.7 crore
