Apple TV has announced that the much-awaited fourth chapter of "Ted Lasso" will arrive on August 5. The first episode will premiere on this date, followed by a weekly episode every Wednesday, until the finale on Oct. 7, 2026.

Lead star and executive producer Jason Sudeikis returns in his Emmy award-winning role, for which he also won the Golden Globe Best Actor award twice in consecutive years.

There are reports that Season 4 will see the story moving in a "new direction", hinting at a narrative reset — or soft reboot — which involves Ted returning to London for a new assignment: coaching a newly formed AFC Richmond women's football team. This marks a significant shift as the series will move away from the original story arc.

The idea of coaching Richmond's second-division women's squad was a development teased in the Season 3 finale. Juno Temple's character, Keeley Jones, had presented the idea to Hannah Waddingham's character, Rebecca Welton. The new storyline will reportedly explore the challenges faced by women athletes, such as sexism, which means Ted will have to encounter a fresh set of challenges.

Season 4 was shot in Kansas City (Ted’s hometown) before moving back to London, suggesting the season will bridge Ted’s life in the U.S. with his return to Richmond. The overarching theme for the season is "leap before you look," emphasising spontaneity and taking risks in unfamiliar territory.

Aside from Sudeikis, Waddingham, and Temple, other confirmed returning cast members include Brett Goldstein (Roy), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Jeremy Swift (Higgins).

The "new direction" introduces a whole different set of characters for the team, including a new assistant coach played by Tanya Reynolds ("Sex Education"). Interestingly, the role of Ted’s son, Henry, has been recast with Grant Feely, teasing a possible time jump or a larger focus on Henry's own football journey.

Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) will not be a series regular due to scheduling conflicts, though he may appear in a limited guest capacity.

As of now, there's no official confirmation of a fifth season, but unconfirmed reports indicate the core cast signed three-year deals, hinting that this "new direction" could span through Season 5 and Season 6 if the fourth season is successful.
