What's next for Aditya Dhar after 'Dhurandhar 2'? It could be one of three big ideas

"Dhurandhar 2" is the first Hindi-language film to cross the Rs 1,000 crore net mark in India. It is the fastest Indian film to reach Rs 1,500 crore worldwide, and surpassed "Baahubali 2" to become the highest-grossing Indian film in North America.

Can Christopher Nolan go back to making smaller films after he has made back-to-back blockbusters? Why bring Nolan's name here? Not that we are calling Dhar India's answer to Nolan — that would be an unfair comparison — but a filmmaker who has tasted gigantic success at least three times in a row, going back to a relatively small-scale project, is rare, unless the filmmaker is named, maybe, Rian Johnson.

But let's get back to Dhar. Naturally, everyone is waiting to see what the man is going to attempt next. He is expected to take a break following the unprecedented record-breaking milestones of "Dhurandhar" and "Dhurandhar 2". According to a report in Variety India, he is pondering the possibility of doing either one of three big-scale projects: “The Immortal Ashwatthama” (Dhar has been circling this project for a long time), a historical epic (Ranveer is eyed to play the lead) and a big-budget sports drama.

The article quotes a source who indicates that “The Immortal Ashwatthama" is at the top of Dhar's list of dream projects. However, we cannot say for sure if he'll go ahead with it immediately — fans on social media have been continually asking him to do it. “He spent lots of time and effort developing that high-tech mythological epic before it was shelved for being too expensive," adds the source who believes that things could turn around now that Dhar is a hot property. "Whether he picks that up or not is entirely his call, but that's one project that's still there on his table.”

Dhar could also pick up a massive historical epic with Ranveer Singh, as per a second source. This one revolves around Emperor Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Maurya Empire. The source shared: “It's a space that hasn't been explored yet. You have the same emotions of high drama, action, treachery, etc. And it can be an interesting space. Its canvas is big, and if Ashwatthama is not happening, this is the most obvious one.”

As of April 2026, "Dhurandhar 2" is the first Hindi-language film to cross the Rs 1,000 crore net mark in India.

It is the fastest Indian film to reach Rs 1,500 crore worldwide, a feat achieved in just 16 days, surpassing "Pushpa 2: The Rule", which took 17 days.

It has also officially surpassed "Baahubali 2" to become the highest-grossing Indian film in North America.
