They say box office success in the Gulf and Chinese markets are the pillars that determine the overseas returns of an Indian movie. One is known for its high number of NRIs and migrant workforce, while the other can change the fortunes of a movie with its sheer number of screens. It turns out that Aditya Dhar's espionage thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Dhurandhar 2) has proven this theory wrong. With no theatrical release in West Asia or China, it has become the sixth highest-grossing Bollywood film overseas.
In the list of highest-grossing Indian movies, Dhurandhar 2 is only behind Dangal, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Pushpa 2: The Rule. For the unversed, biographical sport drama Dangal is the best-performing Indian film in overseas theatres by a wide margin with ₹1,535.30 crore, followed by Secret Superstar at ₹831.47 crore. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has earned ₹489.47 crore overseas, while Jawan and Pathaan have collected ₹400.00 crore and ₹397.50 crore respectively.
Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge (Day 16) stands at ₹375.00 crore, surpassing Andhadhun's ₹347.62 crore. PK follows with ₹303.00 crore, closely followed by the first Dhurandhar at ₹299.50 crore, and Animal with ₹255.00 crore in overseas earnings, box office tracker Sacnilk claimed.
Coming to the Chinese market, Dangal earned ₹1,305.29 crore from China alone. Bajrangi Bhaijaan managed ₹295.76 crore from China, while Andhadhun collected ₹330.54 crore, Sacnilk claimed. Meanwhile, PK earned ₹117.27 crore from China. Dangal (2016) ranks first with a worldwide gross of ₹2,024 crore, followed by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) with ₹1,810 crore. Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024) holds the third spot with ₹1,742 crore, while Dhurandhar 2 currently stands fourth with ₹1,555 crore.
