John Travolta has found a way to combined two of his passions. The actor's directorial debut Propeller One-Way Night, which is based on his aviation-themed 1997 children's story of the same name, will premiere out of competition at Cannes. An official first-look has been unveiled.

Travolta, who is a seasoned pilot himself, has been known for his lifelong obsession with airplanes, which he channeled into his film.

The book, which he wrote for his son, Jett, was based on the actor's childhood experiences watching planes take off from LaGuardia airport. Apple TV brought the streaming rights and will premiere the movie on May 29, 2026.

The official synopsis is as follows: "Set in the golden age of aviation, a young airplane enthusiast Jeff (played by newcomer Clark Shotwell) and his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett) set off on a one-way cross-country odyssey to Hollywood, which transforms a simple flight into the trip of a lifetime," reads the official plot description for Propeller One-Way Night Coach. "Between airline meals, charming flight attendants (played by Ella Bleu Travolta and Olga Hoffman), unexpected stopovers, larger-than-life passengers, and a thrilling glimpse at first class, the journey unfolds in moments both magical and unexpected, charting the course for the boy's future."

Travolta was previously at Cannes for presenting Quentin Tarantino's Palme d'Or-winning "Pulp Fiction" in 1994. He was also the first recipient of Variety's Cinema Icon Award.

Travolta's last acting role was in the 2025 action-thriller "High Rollers", which was a sequel to the 2024 film "Cash Out".
