'Happy Patel' OTT release: When is Vir Das comedy out on streaming?

Alongside Vir Das and Mona Singh, the movie features Mithila Palkar, Sharib Hashmi, Srushti Tawade, and Imran Khan. Aamir Khan appears in a hilarious cameo

Vir Das has announced the official streaming date for "Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos. The Hindi-language spy action-comedy film,  directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, is set for release on Netflix on April 1, 2026. It was released in theatres on January 16, 2026.

Driven by a strongly absurdist streak, "Happy Patel" follows a clumsy but ambitious chef living in London with his foster fathers — two former British MI7 secret agents. However, the dream to be an MI7 agent like them is thwarted multiple times.

However, upon learning that Patel is of Indian origin, the organisation sends him to Goa on a mission to rescue a British scientist kidnapped by a feared local don, Mama (Mona Singh), who is developing an "exotic" fairness cream. To aid him in his mission, Patel has a local coordinator named Geet (Sharib Hashmi) for company.

Aside from Vir Das and Mona Singh, the movie features Mithila Palkar, Sharib Hashmi, Srushti Tawade, and Imran Khan.

An excerpt from THE WEEK's review said: "One of the areas where it scores highly is the manner in which it mines jokes out of Das's British accent-tinted Hindi diction. It's even funnier when they show the exact words and lines as "English" subtitles rather than showing their meanings. It goes without saying that a translation is essential to realise how some of the most common Hindi words can be slightly tweaked to mean something else while fitting comfortably with the ideas that Das and his team have in mind."
