Netflix has officially greenlit and announced a sequel to the huge global animated musical sensation "KPop Demon Hunters". Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who helmed the first one, is returning to directing duties again.

“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” said Kang in an official statement. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”

Appelhans added, “These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”

After it became the "most watched" on streaming charts last year, and the two-day karaoke-accompanied 'Sing Alone' theatrical event, there have been discussions about moving ahead with the next chapter.

A colourful animated musical fantasy from Sony Pictures Animation, "KPop Demon Hunters" became a hit with kids and teenagers since its release on June 20. A month later, Netflix claimed that it's their "most-watched original animated film of all time". In the second week of August, the film reportedly became the "second most-popular" English-language film on the platform.

These claims shouldn’t be hard to believe for adults who first heard about this show from their colleagues whose kids have been talking about it at home and in classrooms. The parents wouldn't have seen it, especially those who are averse to any kind of animation — the ones who dismiss even adult animated films as "just another cartoon." But this is a different generation we are talking about. Moreover, the film's soundtrack is a hit, too, topping the Billboard charts.
