Fans of the original "Game of Thrones" show who were disappointed with the way things turned out in the last two seasons or what they did with the follow-up prequel "House of the Dragon" are breathing a sigh of relief after finding out that HBO's new show from the GoT series, set around 90 years before the events of the original show, is not just good, but extraordinary — just another example of long-form storytelling that gets better and better with each episode.
It seems the makers and the people at HBO were confident about the show's success from the inception. A second season was greenlit before the first debuted on Jan. 18.
Season two will follow 'The Sworn Sword', the second story of George R.R. Martin's "Tales of Dunk and Egg" trilogy. If a third season comes to fruition, it will likely adapt the third story, 'The Mystery Knight'.
'The Sworn Sword' is set nearly a year after the events of Season One. Will there be a possibility of more seasons? Showrunner Ira Parker recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he has access to at least 12 unpublished Dunk and Egg stories thanks to GRR Martin who confided in him the material, trusting him to do whatever he feels is suitable even though they are not apparently fully detailed.
“Even though we don’t have the ins and outs of every story, we know, canonically, the major beats of Dunk and Egg throughout their lives. So we wouldn’t necessarily run into the same trouble as the flagship did. These stories take them all the way through their lives. Some of these are just a paragraph, but they give you a sense of where they’re going to go and the people who come back in and out of the story,” said Parker then.
With six episodes, each with durations reportedly ranging from 30 to 60 minutes, Season 2 of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is expected to land in 2027.
