The Ramadan period is a dry phase for most film industries in India, more so for Bollywood as a large core of the mass belts in Hindi-speaking areas have Muslim population. Understandably, there have been no major releases during this period and the next set of biggies arrive for Eid on March 19 - Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic.

This means that there no current box office collection updates or records to speak of. Hence, let us do an all-time post regarding box office collections of Hindi films. This article tells you about the list of top ten movies with respect to most tickets sold on their opening day in India.

Currently, the highest opening day for any Hindi film in India, including dubbed Hindi films, is held by Pushpa 2, followed by Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan. However, an accurate barometer of stardom can be done through footfalls which indicates the number of tickets sold. You'd be amazed to know that neither film is there even in the all-time top-5 list.

In fact, Jawan is the only film from this decade to be in the top ten list and it is at tenth spot! Shocked? Salman Khan films and Shah Rukh Khan films dominate the list with three films apiece while Aamir Khan has two films in the list. War and Singham Returns are the only non-Khans films in the list.

Salman Khan's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (41.5 lakh) is the only Hindi film to sell over 40 lakh tickets while Shah Rukh's Happy New Year (39.5 lakh) is a close second in the list. Both films were record-breakers at the time of their release, with the Salman-starrer releasing a year after Shah Rukh's film. Both films were Diwali releases too.

At no.3 is Salman's Ek Tha Tiger (39 lakh) followed by Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3 (37 lakh) and Shah Rukh's Chennai Express (36.5 lakh). Only three more films have breached the 35 lakh mark in footfalls on the opening day. Singham Returns feasted on the Independence Day release day and sequel hype to power to 36.5 lakh while Salman's Sultan (35.5 lakh) and Aamir's Thugs of Hindostan (35 lakh) did mega business.

Hrithik Roshan's biggest opener War is at ninth spot with 33 lakh sold while Jawan takes the tenth spot in the list with 32 lakh. With increasing ticket rates, footfalls of biggies in recent years have reduced a fraction. For instance, Pushpa 2 did over Rs 70 crore business on the opening day in Hindi but sold less than 30 lakh tickets.
