From the time it released in theatres on December 5, 2025, Dhurandhar has been the talk of the nation. The spy thriller demolished all box office records to become the highest-grossing Hindi film, both in India and worldwide. For Ranveer Singh, who was going through an extended lean patch, this was the sort of comeback that made a huge statement. Now, with Dhurandhar 2 incoming, Ranveer can go a few notches higher.
Amid all the glory around him, the Dhurandhar star has landed in a big controversy with Excel Entertainment after walking out of Don 3. While it initially seemed just like any other shelved project, latest updates from Variety India suggest that the episode has snowballed into a huge controversy. Ranveer is reportedly now involved in a financial dispute to the tune of Rs 40 crore.
It must be remembered that the first look of Don 3 was unveiled in 2025 but received overwhelmingly negative response on social media. Soon after, there was a lull in updates and the film was reportedly put on hold. Excel Entertainment claim that Ranveer's delays had caused them immense financial losses and the eventual walkout has only worsened the scenario.
Ranveer, though, is firm in his stance that his walkout was due to creative differences with Farhan Akhtar and the Excel team. There was a meeting arranged last week as a last-ditch effort to dilute the brewing controversy but that didn't go to plan. If anything, the controversy has only escalated.
Don 3 was initially supposed to star Shah Rukh Khan who had reprised the iconic character in Don and Don 2. However, that plan never really took off although it was close to happening a couple of times. This was during the early part of 2020s when Shah Rukh was taking a break after the failure of Zero.
After giving historic successes in 2023, Shah Rukh was back in the game but he chose to decline Don 3, which led to Ranveer's entry later in the game. Currently, it seems like the third installment is jinxed indefinitely.
