Charli XCX to lead Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike's next horror thriller

Takashi Miike is a celebrated Japanese auteur renowned for his ultraviolent thrillers in the horror and action genres, such as 'The Audition', 'Blade of the Immortal' and '13 Assassins'

British singer and actress Charli XCX is set to collaborate with maverick Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike for a horror project. Miike is known for his ultraviolent thrillers in the horror and action genres, such as "The Audition", "Blade of the Immortal" and "13 Assassins".

According to a report in Variety, Miike will direct from a script by Ross Evans, with Charli XCX also involved as producer under her banner Studio365.

Other lead cast members include Milly Alcock from "House of the Dragon" and the upcoming "Supergirl", Sho Kasamatsu (“Tokyo Vice”) and Kiko Mizuhara (“Ride or Die”, and Norman Reedus ("The Walking Dead")

With a tentative title “Untitled Kyoto Project”, the official synopsis states that the film "follows three friends who meet up in the Japanese city of Kyoto only to see their holiday turn into a nightmare as Charli’s character is possessed by a tortured spirit."

As for "The Moment", the official Sundance logline describes the film as thus: "A rising pop star navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut. A flashy, tongue-in-cheek hyper-pop mockumentary, The Moment is Charli XCX's creative reflection on her own meteoric success with brat. Directed and co-written by “360” music video director Aidan Zamiri in his feature debut, the film has a stylishly effortless rhythm and a uniquely self-aware, ironic sense of humor. Charli xcx plays an exaggeratedly manic version of herself, surrounded by a cast of characters that mirror both the friends and foes of the era."

Charli's recent cinematic ventures include “Erupcja,” “100 Nights of Hero,” “Sacrifice,” and Gregg Akari’s “I Want Your Sex” alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman.
