Rohit Shetty and the Golmaal series are not going anywhere, at least not for now. The comedy franchise is set to have its fifth installment and this time, it is going to be a mega upgrade from the previous four films. Why? Because Ajay Devgn and his Golmaal gang are set to welcome Akshay Kumar into the franchise for Golmaal 5.
According to sources, Golmaal 5 is set to go on floors in March 2026 and while a release date hasn't been locked just yet, Summer 2027 seems to be a tentative goal for the makers in terms of the release date. Arshad Warsi and Shreyas Talpade are expected to be back in this film alongside a host of familiar Golmaal characters.
For now, there is no clarity over Akshay's role in Golmaal 5. Will it be a crossover of his franchise film meeting the world of Golmaal? Or will he just be a fresh addition to the series? One big speculation doing the rounds is that Akshay is supposedly set to play the antagonist role in Golmaal 5.
The genre of Golmaal 5 might also be a big change from its predecessors will fantasy elements touted to be a big part of the narrative. The aim of the makers is to dish out a mammoth theatrical experience in terms of the canvas and viewing experience. The first schedule of Golmaal 5 is expected to begin in February end at the Film City in Mumbai.
Entering the Golmaal series makes it a packed year for Akshay in terms of working on franchises, given that he is already shooting for the sequels of Welcome, Hera Pheri and Housefull. Also, this will be the second major antagonist role for Akshay in the near future, having already shot his part for Priyadarshan's Haiwaan that also stars Saif Ali Khan.
Akshay also played a cameo in Devgn's latest installment of the Singham series in 2024.
