The gross domestic collection of Jiiva's Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil has now gone past Rs 19 crore on Thursday — the eighth day of its theatrical run. The data was revealed by Sacnilk, which noted that the collections from the afternoon shows are yet to come in, meaning the final sum can only be estimated after 10:00 pm. The worldwide collection of the movie has gone past the Rs 25 crore mark, the report said.
Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil had an overall 9.58% occupancy on Thursday, with theatres in Pondicherry, Chennai, Vellore, and Trichy performing the best as per Sacnilk. Even if the Nithish Sahadev directorial matches Wednesday's domestic gross collection of Rs 1.05 crore, its lowest since its release last Thursday, the entertainer is set to cross the Rs 20-crore mark. With the weekend fast approaching, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil seems to be well on course to break the Rs 30 crore barrier.
The movie has already established itself as the best Pongal release, outgunning Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi and Karthi's Vaa Vaathiyaar amidst the Jana Nayagan fiasco. According to Sacnilk, the film, which was released on 15 January, collected a worldwide gross of nearly Rs 5.50 crore in just its first two days, which includes an India gross collection of Rs 5.2 crore and Rs 25 lakh from overseas.
Made on a modest budget of Rs 10 crore, the satire managed to collect about half of it on Saturday alone. According to the website, its collection was around Rs 5.3 crore on 17 January.
