'Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos' box office collection day 4: Vir Das' directorial debut is a theatrical failure

On its fourth day, Vir Das' 'Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos' continues to struggle for survival at the box office

happypatel - 1 'Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos' will end up as a theatrical failure for Vir Das and Aamir Khan | X

Vir Das' directorial debut Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos has tanked at the box office. The madcap comedy funded by Aamir Khan Productions never really took off from the start itself. An opening day of Rs 1.25 crore nett in India in 2026 is abysmal for any film, especially when it has such a big banner behind it.

Even with the low opening day, there was hope if Saturday and Sunday showed bigger growth but that wasn't to be. Saturday saw collections of Rs 1.60 crore nett while Sunday stood at Rs 1.50 crore nett. This shows a very flat trend and the increase in collections is largely due to the increased ticket rates in the weekend. So logically, there hasn't been any proper growth at all.

With a weekend figure of Rs 4.35 crore nett, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos had nowhere to go unless there was a miracle in the weekdays. Unfortunately, the first Monday is showing a noticeable drop from the opening day which in itself was a very low figure. There is a big release in Border 2 this Friday and Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos will probably end its theatrical run by then.

The lifetime figures of Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos are unlikely to even touch the Rs 10 crore nett mark and even if it does, that would be by a whisker. There isn't any official data regarding the film's budget but surely, these collections won't be giving any profits to Aamir Khan's production house.

The film's intentions were to possibly replicate the success of Delhi Belly (2011) that was also funded by Aamir Khan. However, the box office dynamics of 2026 aren't the same as 2011, and such films need a big start to have any chance at the box office. Also, the urban-style humour is unlikely to work in smaller towns and tier-2 cities.

Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos will end as a theatrical debacle at the box office. Perhaps, the makers could have benefited from a direct OTT release, considering Das' global fame as a stand-up comedian.
