After weeks of anticipation, Shah Rukh Khan's next release King appears to have locked its release date. The Siddharth Anand directorial, which also features Shah Rukh's daughter Suhana Khan in a key role, is set to arrive in theatres for Christmas 2026.
While an official announcement is expected in the coming days, exhibitors and distributors have reportedly been informed about 25th December being King's release date. After delivering two all-time blockbusters and a hit in 2023, Shah Rukh had no releases in 2024 and 2025.
Interestingly, King was initially supposed to feature Shah Rukh in just a cameo role with Suhana being the lead role. That, though, was when the project was being helmed by Sujoy Ghosh who had previously directed films for Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment.
However, due to an unexpected series of events, the scale of the project became bigger, resulting in Anand's entry into the project at Ghosh's expense. Subsequently, the project also got expanded to a Shah Rukh-starrer, although Suhana's role is still prominent in the film.
On November 2, 2025, the title announcement teaser of King was launched on the occasion of Shah Rukh's 60th birthday. The stylishly designed teaser went viral and has raised the hype levels of the film by a lot of notches. Shah Rukh's 'salt n pepper' hairstyle sees him in a very new avatar.
As of now, there are no Bollywood films that are clashing with King, which means that the Shah Rukh starrer will enjoy the privilege of a solo release in the lucrative Christmas-New Year period.
