'Parasakthi' box office collection day 3: Significant drop for Sivakarthikeyan starrer on first Monday

Sivakarthikeyan's Pongal release 'Parasakthi' is experiencing a big fall on its first Monday at the domestic box office

Sivakarthikeyan in Parasakthi 'Parasakthi' is showing a big drop on its first Monday at the domestic box office

After a strong opening in the first two days, Parasakthi is showing a huge drop in collections on its first Monday at the domestic box office. The Sivakarthikeyan-starrer registered collections of Rs 11 crore and Rs 9.50 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The minor drop on Sunday didn't seem alarming with the pre-Pongal factor in play, although films still manage to show growth.

For Parasakthi, the drop of 15-20 percent escalated further on its first Monday with advance bookings being at a low figure of Rs 2 crore in Tamil Nadu. There has been a huge fall in occupancies from the morning shows onwards and a best-case scenario for the film will be to touch the Rs 5 crore mark, which will still be a significant drop from the first two days. Estimates, though, hint at barely Rs 3 crore which is shocking!

However, if Parasakthi had touched the Rs 5 crore mark, it could have hoped to stay stable around that range for the next two days, which would then give it a chance to grow across the Pongal holidays. It will be an uphill task but with no major competition, Parasakthi does have a chance to stay afloat.

This makes Tuesday a huge day for Parasakthi with respect to its long run. The weekend trend and this Monday crash doesn't paint a glorious picture and trends suggest further drops in the coming days. The audience reception to the film ranges from mixed to negative. The film has arguably not resonated universally with the viewers.

Parasakthi also began well overseas and ensured a Rs 28 crore opening day worldwide, making it the second-biggest opener for Sivakarthikeyan. It will breach the Rs 50 crore mark on Tuesday but whether it will cross the Rs 100 crore mark remains to be seen, and Tamil Nadu will understandably decide this.
