The distributors of Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated last film, Jana Nayagan, on Friday announced a new release date for the film.
This comes days after the film's January 9 release was postponed on Wednesday, as it had not yet received a censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), despite submission over a month ago.
The new release date for the film is January 14 (Pongal release window), as per SSR Entertainments, the Kerala distributors of the film. However, an official announcement is still awaited from the film's producers, KVN Productions.

The Madras High Court on Friday directed that the CBFC grant a U/A (16+) certificate for the film, adding it was "crystal clear" that the CBFC's grievances about Jana Nayagan "hurting religious sentiments" were an afterthought.
On her order, Justice P.T. Asha also noted that after the CBFC board made its decision to grant a censor certificate, its chairperson had no power to send the matter to the Review Committee. She added that this was evident from a CBFC communication to KVN Productions, dated December 22, 2025.
Soon after the judgment, Additional Solicitor General A.R.L. Sundaresan made a mention before Chief Justice M.M. Shrivastava to permit the censor board to file an appeal against the single-judge order, and urged the court to take it up immediately, as per a PTI report.
The postponement, announced by KVN Productions on Wednesday, led to thousands of disappointed fans across the country—many of whom had made advance bookings as well.

"It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on 9 January, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control," the producers had said.
Said to be Vijay's last film before he gives up cinema for politics and helmed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan also features actors like Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol, among others.
