Prime Video has announced Cheekatilo, a new Telugu original feature starring Sobhita Dhulipala.
Directed by Sharan Kopishetty, the film is touted as an "edge-of-the-seat" crime thriller, which has Dhulipala playing a true-crime podcaster in the pursuit of some uncomfortable truths and unraveling some of the darkest realities of the city.
Produced by D. Suresh Babu, Cheekatilo features actor Viswadev Rachakonda in a pivotal role. Other cast members include Chaitanya Visalakshmi, Esha Chawla, Jhansi, Aamani, and Vadlamani Srinivas.
In a statement, Nikhil Madhok, director & head of Originals, Prime Video India, said, "What sets 'Cheekatilo' apart is its blend of cultural authenticity, with modern storytelling mediums like podcasts that play a key role in the narrative. We believe the movie's universal themes of resilience and sisterhood will extend its appeal far beyond the Telugu-speaking diaspora and connect with audiences across India and globally."
The streamer has slated Cheekatilo for a January 23 premiere.
Cheekatilo also marks Dhulipala's third Telugu-language feature after Goodachari and Major. The Hyderabad native also dubbed for Deepika Padukone in the Telugu version of Kalki 2898 AD.
Notably, Dhulipala previously collaborated with Prime Video on two seasons of Made in Heaven, through which the actress, who made her debut with Anurag Kashyap's Raman Raghav 2.0 (opposite Vicky Kaushal), delivered one of her most acclaimed performances.
