Amidst the ongoing debates and social media backlash against critics and netizens with opposing views on movies, actress Sonakshi Sinha offered her two cents about the cyberattacks against the aforementioned as well as celebrities, and urged for stringent cyber laws to thwart them. The Lootera actress addressed this during an event in Mumbai.
"What happens to everyone also happens in the case of actors. Now, it's with critics," she said. "I think that is something that we should all work towards putting an end to and try to figure out a solution to that problem... Anyone from any part of the world can say anything to you, and you can’t do anything about it. I feel we need to have strict laws to control it and keep a check on it.”
Sonakshi has experienced her share of online abuse and trolling. Her 2024 interfaith marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal was the reason. She recently addressed this in a podcast with Soha Ali Khan, sharing that though she was initially bothered by it, she has begun to see it as "just noise," which the couple "cut out" later.
"I am not the first person who did it, and I am not going to be the last. It's a grown ass woman making a life choice in which people I don't even know, everybody had a say in it for some reason. It felt all really stupid at that point in time. It was all just so beautiful for us; we were thrilled to spend the rest of our lives together, so we just cut out the noise,” she said then, adding that they had to disable their comments. “It's very difficult, especially at that time when you only want positivity coming your way. We live in a social media world, so I had to put off my comments. I didn't want to read a single negative thing on my big day about me, my partner, or my family.”
Sonakshi was recently seen in Jatadhara, a supernatural thriller directed by Abhishek Jaiswal and Venkat Kalyan. The movie marked her acting debut in Telugu-language cinema.
