'Freedom at Midnight' Season 2 release date: SonyLIV unveils first trailer for Nikkhil Advani series

Based on the book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, the historical political thriller from showrunner Nikkhil Advani continues to explore the pivotal events of India's independence

SonyLIV has set a premiere date for the second season for filmmaker Nikkhil Advani's Freedom at Midnight. The political thriller show, which revolves around the events pertaining to India's independence, will begin streaming on SonyLIV on January 9.

It is based on the acclaimed book of the same name by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins.

In an official statement, Nikkhil said, "Season 2 of Freedom at Midnight takes us even deeper into India's most defining months. These were times of turmoil, courage, and impossible decisions, moments that shaped the soul of a new nation. Throughout this season, we've focused on bringing to life not just the political corridors where history was written, but also the human stories that carried its weight. It's a reminder of the sacrifice, leadership, and resilience that guided India through its most turbulent transition."

The cast members include Sidhant Gupta, Chirag Vohra, Rajendra Chawla, Arif Zakaria, Ira Dubey, KC Shankar, RJ Malishka, Rajesh Kumar, Luke McGibney, Andrew Cullum, Richard Teverson, Alistair Finlay, and Cordelia Bugeja playing the principal characters.

Nikkhil serves as the showrunner and director of the show which is backed by Emmay Entertainment in association with StudioNext.

Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor comprise the writing team.

Sidhant Gupta essays Jawaharlal Nehru, while Chirag Vohra plays Mahatma Gandhi and Rajendra Chawla is cast as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The first season opened last year, on November 15, to a positive reception.
