After a long hiatus, Mammootty is back with a bang. His latest release Kalamkaval has opened to excellent numbers when you consider its genre and the word-of-mouth seems to be highly encouraging so far. Kalamkaval recorded the third biggest opening day for a Malayalam film in 2025 at the Kerala box office, only behind Mohanlal starrers Empuraan and Thudarum.
While the opening day figures in the state came to around Rs 4.92 crore, the second day saw growth and the Rs 5 crore mark was breached by the crime thriller. Sunday saw the biggest day at the box office for Kalamkaval as it zoomed past Rs 5.50 crore, taking the Kerala weekend gross to Rs 15.50 crore.
On its fourth day, Kalamkaval is experiencing superstrong occupancy levels across Kerala and is on track for Rs 3 crore gross, which would be an excellent result for the film. The three-day worldwide figures of the film are around Rs 44.20 crore and it should enter the Rs 50 crore club today.

In terms of three-day collections, Kalamkaval is comfortably Mammootty's biggest opener but if you consider extended weekends, it is marginally behind Bheeshma Parvam and Turbo, both of which had four-day opening weekends. Kalamkaval is set for a strong run but will have to face competition from December 18 onward.
A plethora of releases across all languages are expected in the coming weeks and it shall be interesting to see how Kalamkaval holds fort at the box office. If it maintains the current trend, it could become Mammootty's highest grosser, both in Kerala and worldwide.
