Mammootty starrer Kalamkaval, directed by Jithin K. Jose, has a smooth solo ride at the Kerala box office, with no other major releases in Mollywood this week.
Reports after the first show on the opening day were positive. Critics are also in praise of the thriller. Fans were also an excited lot as their beloved Mammukka returned to the big screen after gap of seven months.
Till 8 pm, Kalamkaval minted Rs 3.83 crore at the domestic box office, according to Sacnilk. The overseas and worldwide collection reports are expected to be available by Saturday. But trade analysts predict that the film could easily cross Rs 10 crore worldwide.
The hourly ticket sale on BookMyShow for Kalamkaval was around Rs 15.58K. It had more than 1,300 shows in Kerala alone.
Around 2.25 crore worth of tickets were sold in Kalamkaval's advance booking, recording Mollywood's third best pre-sales this year. Mohanlal's Empuraan had the best advance booking for the opening day in 2025, collecting Rs 12.38 crores. Another Lalettan film, Thudarum, bagged 2.35 crore in Day 1 pre-sales.
The screenplay of Kalamkaval was written jointly by director Jithin and Jishnu Sreekumar. The film also stars Vinayakan in a key role while other cast include Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajish Vijayan and Shruti Ramachandran.
