There is never a dull moment with Ranveer Singh around. The 40-year-old hogged the limelight on the final day of IFFI 2025 in Goa during the closing ceremony on Friday (November 28). While his speech had a lot of topics including his upcoming film Dhurandhar, the one incident that has made waves is when he spoke about Rishabh Shetty and the Kantara series.

With Shetty seated in the front row amongst other reputed dignitaries, Singh lauded his performence in Kantara: Chapter 1 that released on 2nd October 2025. Sequel to the historic 2022 blockbuster Kantara, this film ended with a worldwide gross of above Rs 800 crore and Shetty's performance was hailed, just like it was in the first installment.

Singh spoke about the iconic sequence that is there in both the films, the one where Shetty's character is possessed and while explaining the perfection of the sequence, Singh went overboard by trying to imitate the sequence.

It ended up looking silly and considering the religious dynamics of this sequence, it hasn't gone down well with netizens at all.

"Ranveer's reaction to the Kantara scene really felt unnecessary and disrespectful", wrote a user on social media.

Meanwhile, a noted Tulu speaker on social media was fuming at the video and tagged both the actors in the tweet.

"Ranveer Singh literally mocking Daiva Chavundi possession in Kantara. How low these movie stars can go for fame, money with zero respect for sacred Tulunad Daivaradhane beliefs🥺Shame. Rishabh is enjoying that mimic?

While Dhurandhar is releasing on December 5, the film is already facing backlash for lack of promotion from the cast and crew. It can be argued that the makers want to maintain a low profile till the release day but then, this appearance and speech from Singh is arguably detrimental to the social media noise for the film's leading actor.
