Ajay Devgn's latest release De De Pyaar De 2 had a decent opening weekend at the global box office. The numbers weren't extraordinary and could have certainly been better, but it at least managed to get off to a respectable start at the box office. It managed to record an opening weekend of Rs 35 crore nett, which would be approximately Rs 41 crore gross, in India.
Failure to notch up a double-digit opening day was a dampener for De De Pyaar De 2 but like most urban Bollywood films, it showed an upward trend across the weekend. While Friday's numbers were around Rs 8.50 crore, Saturday spiked to Rs 12.50 crore and Sunday ended with Rs 14 crore nett.
Ideally, it needed a Friday-Saturday-Sunday trend of about Rs 11 crore-Rs 16 crore-Rs 20 crore or thereabouts. However, the post-pandemic dynamics of the Bollywood box office have changed dramatically, especially for films of rom-com genre. Solid opening days have been a rarity and films have struggled to show rapid growth in the weekend, unless the word-of-mouth is exceptional.
On its fourth day, De De Pyaar De 2 is showing a big drop at the India box office. The morning shows had an average occupancy of below 10 percent and there has hardly been any jump through the day. At this point, the film is targeting Rs 4-5 crore on its first Monday and these are extremely poor numbers, particularly with the underwhelming opening.
The film is performing at its best in the Delhi-NCR area and that is largely due to the flavour of the film. However, if we consider the overall India performance, De De Pyaar De 2 is showing signs of struggle and currently, it doesn't seem like it would cross the collections of De De Pyaar De which collected Rs 95 crore nett back in 2019.
