Anupama Parameswaran shared that she endured significant distress after an individual allegedly spread inappropriate and hateful content involving her on social media.

In a statement, Anupama wrote that this content not only targeted her but also her family. Moreover, her friends and co-actors were tagged in them. “The posts included morphed pictures and baseless allegations - it was deeply distressing to witness such targeted harassment online," shared the Bison Kaalamaadan actress.

The same individual, she added, had created multiple fake accounts to cause more harm, following which she filed a complaint with the Kerala Police's Cyber Crime division, which has apprehended the culprit, who, to Anupama's surprise, turned out to be a 20-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu.

However, the Dragon actress elected not to reveal her identity as she doesn't want to "compromise her future or peace of mind."

Anupama emphasised that online activities are traceable and stressed the importance of accountability for harmful actions. She stated that she has taken legal action, and the accused will face consequences.

"Owning a smartphone or having access to social media platforms does not give anyone the right to harass, defame, or spread hatred against others. Being an actor or a public figure doesn't strip away basic rights. Cyberbullying is a punishable offence- and accountability is real," she concluded.

It was only a day earlier that Kantara: Chapter 1 actress Rukmini Vasanth had brought up the matter of an anonymous individual impersonating her and contacting people under false pretences using her name. In an official statement on her social media handle, she cautioned people against responding to messages or calls from the mysterious individual's number.

Interestingly, on the same day, Malayalam actress Samyuktha Varma shared a similar experience via a video message posted by her actor-husband Biju Menon. In her message, the Megamalhaar actress urged caution against scams and other unlawful activities from unknown accounts posing as her.
