Dies Irae is having a hot streak at the box office. After six days of theatrical run, the Pranav Mohanlal starrer breezed into the Rs 50 crore club globally, making it a hat-trick of Rs 50 crore grossers for the actor. Pranav became only the second Mollywood actor to achieve this feat, the first being his superstar father Mohanlal.
Despite being A-rated, Dies Irae hasn't been affected at the box office as it got off to a double-digit opening day worldwide and has maintained the momentum ever since. The opening weekend registered Rs 38 crore gross worldwide as a plethora of late night shows were added for the film across all three opening days.
Dies Irae set a new record for the highest first and opening weekend for A-rated films. Solid promos, Pranav's box office form and neat content from director Rahul Sadasivan has ensured a blockbuster opening week for the film. The weekdays have been solid from Monday to Wednesday with acceptable drops reported.
On its seventh day, the drop is a shade more than previous days but that is expected for a film of this genre. In fact, Dies Irae is unlikely to have a long run as horror thrillers generally enter saturation after two weeks. The second Friday figures will tell us where the film is heading.
The opening week collections in India are set to be around Rs 33 crore gross and the overseas numbers are expected to be around Rs 27 crore. Early estimates indicate a worldwide gross of Rs 60 crore in the opening week. Dies Irae is a certified SUPERHIT and the question now is whether it can attain BLOCKBUSTER status or not.
