Romance seems to have a new lease of life in Bollywood. After the unprecedented success of Saiyaara, it is time for another romantic film to achieve blockbuster status. While all the hype for Diwali was around the bigger film Thamma, it is its opponent Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat that has come out with flying colours at the box office.

The romantic drama starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa in lead roles has already collected Rs 47 crore nett in seven days and this is a sensational start for a film whose budget is reported to be barely Rs 25 crore including print and publicity. Once the film took a start of close to Rs 10 crore nett on the opening day, box office success was guaranteed.

The chartbuster songs of the film have been a major selling point in increasing the buzz factor and the film has connected with the north India audience on the similar levels to Saiyaara which grossed over Rs 550 crore worldwide with a budget of under Rs 50 crore. This makes Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat the second most profitable Bollywood film of the year in terms of profit percentage.

On its eighth day, the film is actually showing a jump in occupancies across the country in comparison to Day 7. This is, however, due to the discount offers that are running across the major ticketing platforms. Therefore, the collections may not end up being higher than Monday but it should remain on a similar range, meaning that Rs 3 crore nett is guaranteed for the day.

That takes the eight-day collections of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat to roughly Rs 50 crore nett. The film is also doing well overseas with $1 million gross reported till Monday. The worldwide gross of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat after eight days is approximately Rs 70 crore and it is expected to have another solid week's run at the box office.
