Director Venky Atluri's next, with actor Suriya, has added Raveena Tandon to the cast. Tentatively titled 'Suriya 46', the cast update announcement was made by the makers on the occasion of Tandon's birthday on Sunday.

Sithara Entertainments, which commenced production of the anticipated project in May, posted the announcement on their social media handles.

Suriya, last seen in Karthik Subbaraj's Retro, had shared the news of his joining the project during the pre-release event of that film. "The whole journey started with Allu Aravind garu. We are associating with Sithara Entertainments' Vamsi garu and my dear brother Venky. As you all have been asking, after a long time, with beautiful association and beautiful talent here, we will be doing my next Tamil film with dear Venky. I’ll be shooting a lot and spending a lot of time here in beautiful Hyderabad," he said then.

Mamitha Baiju has been cast as the female lead, with Radhika Sarathkumar in an integral role. Suriya 46 has music by GV Prakash Kumar. It also reunites Atluri with cinematographer Nimish Ravi, who also shot Lucky Bhaskar. Naveen Nooli is the editor.

What's Suriya's next release?

Suriya's immedidate upcoming release is Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji. The recently unveiled teaser was packed with action-heavy moments, with Suriya rocking two different get-ups, one of a corporate guy and another of a black shirt and mundu-clad commoner, hinting at the actor playing a character with dual identities.

Touted as a festive mass entertainer, Karuppu is penned by Rathna Kumar, a frequent collaborator of famed director Lokesh Kanagaraj. He previously co-wrote the scripts for Vijay-starrer Master (2021) and Leo (2023) with him.

The makers will be releasing Karuppu in multiple languages including Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu, given the "pan-Indian" cast involved.

Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead in Karuppu, marking an on-screen reunion with Suriya after two-decades. The pair last appeared on-screen together for the 2005 Hari directorial Aaru. Aside from the main leads, the film also features stellar South Indian talents like Yogi Babu, Sshivada, Natty Subramaniam, Malayalam actors Swasika, Indrans and Anagha Maya Ravi, and Telugu actor Supreeth Reddy.
