Bigg Boss TVR rating: Not Salman Khan or Nagarjuna, the show hosted by this regional superstar is more popular

Bigg Boss Hindi set the ball rolling 19 years ago and later regional versions hit the screens with more local flavour. While Salman Khan has been the mainstay of the Hindi version, regional superstars helmed the show in other languages.

The Television Viewership Rating (TVR) determines the popularity of a show by calculating the percentage of the target audience that watches it at a given time. This also determines the advertising value of the show.

Which 'Bigg Boss' version is leading?

Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 7 has 12.1 rating, the highest among all languages. Since the first season, the show has been hosted by actor Mohanlal, who recently won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Bigg Boss Telugu Season 9, which is hosted by Nagarjuna, has 11.1 rating. The Telugu show made headlines recently after a police complaint alleged that the show was promoting indecent content.

It is followed by Bigg Boss Kannada Season 12 with a rating of 7.4 on week days and 10.9 on weekends. However, to the fans' dismay, the show hosted by Kiccha Sudeep was earlier suspended afrer Vel Studio (Jollywood) in Bidadi was sealed over environmental pollution. However, it resumed later after Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar mediated the issue and gave the production team another chance to comply with the rules.

Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 has 5.61 rating. It is currently hosted by Vijay Sethupathi. Recently, Velumurugan, a leader of DMK ally Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi, called for ban on the "disgusting, low-class, indecent" show for denigrating Tamil culture.

Bigg Boss Hindi Season 19 has the least ratings. The show hosted by Salman Khan has a weekend rating of 1.8. This week, the rating increased from 1.1 to 1.3.

While all Bigg Boss versions have got higher ratings than other shows in each language, calls for banning the show are growing loud over promotion of vulgar language and indecent content.
