Science fiction enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to an upcoming Apple Original series, based on a novel that was said to be one of the inspirations for celebrated films like The Matrix and Ghost in the Shell. However, nobody has been able to adapt it for movies or television until now.
The book in question is William Gibson's cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, in which characters are able to "travel" inside a digital environment. Its protagonist is an extremely skilled but tired hacker embroiled in a complex web of espionage and high-stakes crime.
The book is being adapted into a 10-episode series created by Graham Roland, known for his work on the shows Lost, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Dark Winds, alongside JD Dillard (Devotion, The Outsider). Production is underway. The show is expected to have its premiere in 2026. Dillard is directing the pilot episode while Roland handles showrunning duties.
Interestingly, Skydance Television, which also backed Apple's most stunning sci-fi show Foundation, is producing Neuromancer. Anyone who has seen Foundation is familiar with the show's magnificent world-building, superlative production design, and flawless cinematography.
Neuromancer, which is William Gibson’s debut novel, has won multiple awards, such as the Nebula Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, and the Hugo Award. It's the first in the trilogy called the 'Sprawl', preceded by “Count Zero” and “Mona Lisa Overdrive.”
Recently, Apple released a teaser promo to inform subscribers that filming for the same is ongoing. Apple is yet to announce an official streaming date.
Meanwhile, the third season of Foundation concluded on September 12. A fourth season has been greenlit, filming set to commence in 2026.
