After 'Rifle Club' & 'Lovely', Aashiq Abu handles camera for Soubin Shahir film

Renowned filmmaker Aashiq Abu makes a return to the cinematographer's chair for this project. The film is jointly backed by Aashiq's OPM Cinemas and Soubin's Parava Films

A new film headlined by Soubin Shahir is in the works, with debutant director Manu Antony. Filmmaker Aashiq Abu is said to be back in the cinematographer's chair after Rifle Club and Lovely. The filming reportedly began at Kuttiyadi, Kozhikode.

Backed by Aashiq's OPM Cinemas and Soubin's Parava Films, the as-yet-untitled film has Manjummel Boys' production designer Ajayan Chalissery in the technical team.

Manu Antony previously worked as an editor on the Joju George-starrers Iratta and Pani. He also directed a short film Vicky and a music video Cheru Punchiri.

Given the aforementioned talents involved, the project comes with a lot of promise. Soubin and Aashiq have worked together before on a few films, albeit in varying capacities.

The actor, who is coming off the success of Coolie, in which he played the principal antagonist, has starred in Aashiq's directorial features Mayanadhi, Rani Padmini and Virus.

Interestingly, Aashiq had an acting part in Soubin's directorial debut Parava, after which the latter's production company is named.

On the directing front, Aashiq is yet to announce his next directorial post-Rifle Club. The action thriller saw Aashiq doing double duty as both director and cinematographer. Scripted by Syam Pushkaran, Dileesh Karunakaran, Suhas and Sharfu, it featured actors Dileesh Pothan, Vani Vishwanath, Vineeth Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, Vishnu Agasthya, Suresh Krishna, Ramzan Muhammed, Hanumankind and Darshana Rajendran. It also marked filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's Malayalam acting debut.

Aside from Coolie and the song 'Monica' for which Soubin got unanimous applause, the actor also made an unnamed cameo appearance in Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra in a brief collage sequence.
