In 2022, Henry Cavill had officially announced that he was handing over the baton to Liam Hemsworth, who takes over the character of Geralt of Rivia, in the fourth season of 'The Witcher'. Netflix had revealed that the new season is being filmed back-to-back with the fifth and final season. The fourth season will premiere on Oct. 30 on the streamer. A teaser introducing Hemsworth was released online.

Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books of the same name, the fourth and final season will cover the remainder of the storyline, and complete the arc of Geralt. The upcoming seasons will adapt the books 'Baptism of Fire', 'The Tower of the Swallow', and 'Lady of the Lake'.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, creator and showrunner, said in an official statement: “This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever.”

Netflix also unveiled the first look of 'The Matrix' and 'Hannibal' actor Laurence Fishburne's fan favourite character Regis, the mysterious barber-surgeon familiar to readers of the book and the games. Additional characters include 'District 9' actor Sharlto Copley as bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, James Purefoy as Skellen, the advisor and spy of Emperor Emhyr var Emreis (Bart Edwards), and Danny Woodburn as Zoltan the dwarf.

Henry Cavill played Geralt in the first three seasons of the Netflix series. The third season was released in two parts in 2023. Prior to its release, Cavill announced on Instagram that he will no longer be playing the character.

Meanwhile, a four-episode prequel series, 'The Witcher: Blood Origin' premiered on December 25, 2022. However, the show failed to generate interest owing to largely negative reviews.
