Madharasi aka Madharaasi, which hit the theatres on September 5, opened to mixed reviews on Day 1. The film directed and written by A.R. Murugadoss stars Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role.
Many fans were raving about the first half of the film, which was filled with action. Sivakarthikeyan's acting and dance moves also won praise. But other pointed out that Madharasi had a lengthy second half and snail-paced romantic sequences. Fans were all praise for Jammwal's action sequence and the climax fight.
How much did Madharasi collect on Day 1?
Going by morning and afternoon shows, Madharasi collected Rs 14.61 crore, as of 10 pm, reported Sacnilk.
Koimoi predicted that the Murugadoss directorial could gross around Rs 8 to 10 crore on Day 1.
Morning shows saw 46.22 per cent occupancy while afternoon crowd improved to 62.04 per cent.
Madharasi was produced by Sri Lakshmi Movies at a budget of Rs 180 crore and has already collected Rs 100 crore in pre-release business.
Madharasi also stars Vidyut Jammwal, Rukmini Vasanth, Biju Menon, Vikranth Santhosh, Monisha Vijay, Prem Kumar, Thalaivasal Vijay, Rishi Rithvik and Shabeer Kallarakkal. The music is done by Anirudh Ravichander.
The plot of Madharasi revolves around a cop who is hunting for illegal weapons smuggled in by a gang into Tamil Nadu. Sivakarthikeyan plays a trauma-riddled yet empowered hero in a film with some neatly done high-octane action sequences, self-aware narrative, and surprising merits that overshadow its minor flaws.
