Popular Punjabi singer, songwriter, and music composer Guru Randhawa has landed in a spot of bother after his latest track, 'Azul', was accused of sexualising school girls, with some critics even using the term paedophilia. The popular singer is comparing young girls to types of alcohol in 'Azul', which has garnered over 42 million views on YouTube three weeks after its release.
The objectification and sexualisation of minor girls has caused a major backlash, although Guru Randhawa, whose full name is Gursharanjot Singh Randhawa, is no stranger to controversies. "Pornographic fetishisation", "paedophilia" and "normalising inappropriate behaviour" were among the many words used by critics who came down heavily on Randhawa. "I have always hated Guru Randhawa, and now his recent music video ‘Azul’ has given me more reasons to hate him. Objectification of women is not music. Pedophilia is not music," one user jotted wrote on X.
The Noorpur-born media sensation, who boasts 37 million followers on Instagram, is yet to officially react to the criticism.

However, reports dating to 2024 hinted that his net worth had crossed the Rs 40 crore mark, with the singer charging about Rs 15 lakh for a song. The same report claimed that he was charging in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for performances. Brand endorsements have been earning him in a range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, the report added.
In a report published in March 2025, Elblogtalk claimed that Guru Randhawa's net worth was Rs 50 crore, with the artist earning no less than Rs 45 lakh each month. This report also claimed that he was now receiving a remuneration of no less than Rs 20 lakh for a song.
