Following the resignation of Youth Congress Kerala state chief Rahul Mamkootathil, Malayalam media personality and actress Rini Ann George stated that her fight is for women and is not based on any individual. Rini, who was brutally trolled and abused online following her revelations against a young political leader, claimed that many people have now realised that her intentions were not politically motivated. The journalist-turned-actress, however, refused to confirm if it was indeed Rahul Mamkootathil who used to send her obscene texts on social media.
"When I came forward with this issue, I was verbally abused and called many names. Once it became clear that this was not something sponsored by any political party, many people have since come forward with complaints. I do not intend to proceed by specifically naming the organisation. My battle is not with an individual; it is with a wrong tendency. My issue is about how a political leader should be. That is not personal," Rini was quoted as saying by Manorama Online.
The actress also stated that it is up to the organisation to which the young leader belongs to decide what action should be taken next. "I have no personal interests in this whatsoever. My focus is solely on their actions from a moral perspective. Even now, what I am saying is that person should be reformed. I still see him as a good friend. I do not consider this a personal issue. It is only about how a political leader should be," she clarified.
When pointed out that more allegations are coming up against the Palakkad MLA, Rini reportedly said that, "Those need to be proven. Currently, some phone conversations are coming out. All those are serious allegations." She also clarified that it would be a good thing if the young leader has understood the situation, and she has no apprehension about having spoken openly. "I realised that there is a large community here that believes I spoke truthfully," she told Manorama Online.
What did Rini Ann George say about the Kerala politician?
Rini Ann George has accused a prominent politician of sending her inappropriate text messages. She first levelled the allegations against him in an interview with Kaumudy Movies, after which she addressed the press on the matter.
OnManorama reported that the actress’ first interaction with the politician, whom she did not name, came three years ago. She said, “I received inappropriate messages from the politician. He invited me to a location to spend time with him. When I told him that I would complain about him, he challenged me to go through with it. ‘Who cares?’ was his attitude.”
Soon after, Rini learned that several others had suffered the same fate. "Through my friends, I learned that several other women faced harassment, and I am speaking up for them," she said.
Joining the bandwagon, author Honey Bhaskaran also levelled similar allegations against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. In a Facebook post, Bhaskaran revealed that Mamkootathil approached her through Instagram in early June and quickly felt uneasy.
Many others have also come forward with similar claims against the MLA.
