Rajinikanth's Coolie has opened to mixed reviews with many saying it has fallen short of expectations while its much-discussed ensemble cast has been slammed as a liability for the storyline.

How much did Coolie earn on Day 1?
Despite mixed reviews, Coolie first-day domestic box office collection for all languages stood at ₹65 crore as of 10 pm on Thursday, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.
It should be noted that Coolie received an 'A' certificate, which meant that the movie is available only for moviegoers aged over 18. The Rajinikanth starrer clashed with War 2 at the box office but reportedly kept an edge over the Bollywood rival. War 2 net box office collection for India stood at ₹55 crore for all languages at 10 pm, as per Sacnilk.

Coolie had a total of 84.55 per cent occupancy for Tamil shows on Thursday, August 14, 2025 with 81.95 per cent for morning shows , 85.13 per cent for afternoon shows and 86.57 per cent for evening shows.
Trichy had the highest occupancy as of 4pm at 98.67 per cent. Chennai had a 97.33 per cent overall occupancy, followed by Coimbatore at 96.5 per cent, Dindigul at 96 per cent, Salem 90 per cent and Madurai 84.5 per cent.
Bengaluru saw 88 per cent occupancy, followed by Kochi at 84 per cent, Thiruvananthapuram at 67 per cent, Mumbai at 46.5 per cent and NCR at 38.5 per cent.
