Shwetha Menon faced heat yesterday when a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against her, alleging that the actress was profiting from performing in obscene scenes in films. The timing of the FIR has raised suspicions as the election of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) nears, where Menon is contesting for the president’s post.
Menon will go head-to-head with actor Devan, who reacted to his opponent’s case and expressed his support for her. In an interview with Twenty-Four News, Devan also said that no one from the AMMA organisation is behind the complaint. “This is an act that no member of the organisation has done. When you examine the FIR details, you know how stupid the case is.”

He also questioned why only Menon was singled out, and the complaint did not name other actors or producers. “If it were a big crime, the complaint should not have been filed only against Shwetha Menon. A case should have been registered against the other actors and crew members of the film,” the actor stated.
The complaint was registered by social activist Martin Menachery, who claimed that explicit clips from the films were circulated on social media and porn websites. Menachery later stated that the complaint was filed on March 3 and has no connection to the AMMA elections. The charges against Menon fall under the IT Act Section 67(A) and the Prevention of Immoral Activities Act.
The AMMA elections are set to be held on August 15. Earlier, actor Baburaj withdrew his nomination after he was scrutinised by other actors and filmmakers for submitting his name amid sexual assault allegations levied against him.
