The executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has stepped down amid escalating internal disputes and mounting criticism over the handling of controversies within the organisation. 

The latest development came during AMMA's annual general body meeting in Kochi, resulting in the resignation of the committee members. AMMA president Shwetha Menon mentioned that after a no-confidence motion was moved against them, the executive committee decided to step down. 

"All the executive committee members have resigned. The treasurer was absconding. When the AMMA office manager was terminated and later filed a police complaint, the issue was not addressed. Instead, the treasurer went missing, which meant we could not produce the accounts for that period. From September 1 onwards, all our accounts were in order. I can only say that I am relieved that I am no longer an AMMA member," Shwetha told reporters. 

According to Onmanorama, members present at the general body meeting mentioned that multiple factors led to the resignation, with alleged irregularities in the association’s accounts emerging as a key issue.

Talking to reporters, Shwetha also mentioned that there were many mistakes in the accounts of the committee headed by actor Baburaj. She also said she would not sit as a puppet and was relieved to have resigned from her post. 

The executive committee, headed by Shwetha Menon, was elected in 2025 with two women in the top posts. Apart from her, Cuckoo Parameswaran assumed the role of general secretary during the tenure. 

Recently, actress Ansiba Hassan stepped down from her position as joint secretary, alleging that she had faced harassment, inadequate support from the leadership, and communal targeting within the organisation. Her resignation triggered a series of discussions and complaints that exposed deeper issues within the executive body.
