Shwetha Menon obscene content case: Martin Menachery says complaint filed in March, not linked to AMMA elections

Social activist Martin Menachery said he filed the complaint on March 3, adding that the police registered the FIR after Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate court gave the orders

After Ernakulam police filed an FIR against Malayalam actress Shwetha Menon over promotion of obscene content on social media and porn websites, the complainant claimed that the case has no links to the upcoming Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) elections.

Social activist Martin Menachery, who filed the complaint against Shwetha, said it was filed on March 3 and that the actress was not running for AMMA president post back then. "When I filed the complaint in March, the Ernakulam Central Police did not take action. Following this, I moved Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate court, which has found substance in the complaint prima facie," he told Mathrubhumi TV channel.

His response came as the complaint raised eyebrows with just over a week left for the AMMA elections. While actor Jagadeesh was the main contender to the post of AMMA president, he withdrew later. Shwetha and actor Devan are the current candidates running for the post.

Menachery alleged that the actor claimed in an interview with a digital platform that she would act in sexually explicit videos again if she gets paid. However, when asked why he is targeting Shwetha alone and not the producers of the movies in question, Menachery did not reply, according to the channel.

The FIR claimed that Shwetha Menon went nude in these films and ads with the alleged intention to make financial gains and these scenes were promoted on social media and adult websites for profit.

Martin alleged that Shwetha was also involved in the distribution of porn content through adult sites, citing that she has acted 'intimately' in films like 'Paleri Manikyam', 'Rathinirvedam' and 'Kalimannu' as well as a Kamasutra advertisement.

AMMA elections are scheduled to be held on August 15. Earlier, actor Baburaj was forced to withdraw from running for the general secretary post as he was facing a sexual harassment case. Kukku Parameswaran and Raveendran are the key candidates contesting for the post.
