Salim Kumar is reportedly on ventilator support. He was rushed to hospital after he complained of health issues in the morning. The family or the hospital authorities were yet provide an update on Salim's health when this report was published.
The actor had undergone a liver transplant a few years ago after he was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.
Earlier, he had disclosed that his illness was hereditary and not due to alcohol consumption. His brother had also suffered from the same illness.
Salim Kumar won the Nationa Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his role in Adaminte Makan Abu, which was India's official entry to the 84th Oscars. He also won four Kerala State Film Awards.
In the past, the actor revealed he first showed symptoms of jaundice and hence reached out to naturopaths to cure his liver cirrhosis as he was scared of surgery. One of the healers prescribed him a herbal medicine, which was to be taken with rice porridge for 51 days. However, he did not get any better and called the healer. This time, he advised the actor to consult a doctor, adding that he himself was suffering from Stage 4 cancer.
The actor then approached another naturopath, Mohanan Vaidyar, who claimed to cure Covid-19 during the pandemic. However, he himself died after being infected with the virus.
A third naturopath asked him to make a herbal medicine using water from 500 coconuts. That too failed. The healer told him not to dispose of the medicine and that it can be used for skin burns.
