‘Kuberaa’ OTT release: Dhanush-starrer crime-drama to arrive on this platform

The Sekhar Kammula directorial stars Dhanush as a beggar assisting the police to stop a corrupt and influential figure. The film hit the silver screens on June 20

Crime-drama Kuberaa will soon find a new home in the OTT space. Three weeks since the film’s release, Amazon Prime Video announced that the Dhanush-starrer will be available on their streaming platform from July 16. “A simple man, and the not-so-simple journey of his redemption arc,” the post captioned.

Headlined by Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, this Sekhar Kammula directorial has Dhanush essaying an unassuming beggar who joins hands with a determined police officer (Nagarjuna) to stop a corrupt and influential figure, but something unexpected happens along the way.

The film earned mixed reviews from critics, with THE WEEK writing, With a runtime that extends over three hours, the plot is stretched wonderfully thin. The pace is choppy, and despite an interesting storyline, the narrative is flat and rushed. The second half is engaging, but the climax is abrupt and hollow, and the rather anticlimactic ending has its fair share of plot holes. Despite the needlessly extended duration stretching the story to the max, the film is unable to land a proper ending, making it a lengthy and tiresome watch.

Kuberaamarks Danush’s 51st as a lead actor. Filmed in Hyderabad and Mumbai, the movie features music composed by the maestro Devi Sri Prasad. Production design is managed by Padma Shri recipient Thota Tharani (Ponniyin Selvan series, Indian), while editing and cinematography is helmed by Karthika Srinivas (Swamy Ra Ra, Mathu Vadalara) and Niketh Bommireddy (Soorarai Pottru, Dragon) respectively.

Kuberaa was bankrolled under the Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations banners. The film, made with a reported budget of Rs 120 crore, managed to gross Rs 134 in the third week of its run.
