Prime Video is releasing an intriguing YA coming-of-age mystery from company behind ‘The O.C.’ and ‘Gossip Girl’

If you're looking for a sun-drenched, summer-focused young adult drama centered on a teenage girl navigating first romances, evolving friendships, and heavy family secrets by the water, Prime Video's "Sterling Point" might be a good bet. Remember "The Summer I Turned Pretty"? Well, this one's expected to be almost along those lines, but in the mystery genre.

A coming-of-age mystery drama, "Sterling Point" will premiere worldwide on Prime Video on August 5, 2026. Created by filmmaker Megan Park, who also wrote and directed the acclaimed films “The Fallout” and “My Old Ass”, the series promises a mix of mystery, family drama, romance, and emotional storytelling. All eight episodes will be released on the same day, making it an ideal summer binge-watch.

Amazon MGM Studios is producing alongside Fake Empire, the production company led by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, best known for hit teen dramas such as “The O.C.” and “Gossip Girl”. LuckyChap Entertainment also serves as a producer.

The story follows Annie Jacobson, a 17-year-old who has grown up in New York City with her loving adoptive father and her twin brother, Connor. Annie’s life takes an unexpected turn when she learns that she has inherited a remote island on a lake in Canada from a grandfather she never knew. Curious about her family’s past, she travels to the island, where she discovers a close-knit but secretive lakeside community.

As Annie settles into her new surroundings, she experiences first love, forms new friendships, and begins uncovering long-hidden family secrets. The mystery deepens when she meets a girl on the island who looks exactly like — wait for it — her late mother! This shocking discovery leads Annie to an unexpected sisterhood and forces her to confront truths that have been hidden for years.

The cast features a blend of rising young talent and familiar faces. Ella Rubin stars as Annie Jacobson, while Keen Ruffalo plays her twin brother Connor. Jay Duplass appears as Annie’s adoptive father, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Amélie Hoeferle, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Bo Bragason, and Missi Pyle rounding out the ensemble.

“Sterling Point” is intriguing because it is an entirely original story rather than an adaptation of a novel — increasingly rare among young adult television dramas. The show’s first trailer also features the song ‘Look at My Life’ by singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams from her album Daughter from Hell.

The series also marks another important project for Megan Park, whose reputation has grown rapidly in recent years. Her debut feature, “The Fallout” (2021), earned widespread praise for its honest portrayal of teenage grief after a school tragedy. She followed it with the acclaimed comedy-drama “My Old Ass” (2024). Before making feature films, Park wrote and directed the award-winning short film “Lucy in My Eyes” (2016) and later directed popular music videos for artists including Billie Eilish, Mike Posner, and Blackbear.
