Anurag Basu, who directed the anthology Life in a Metro, returns with Metro…In Dino, which will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. Set in Mumbai, the film chronicles four couples and their stories that explore the nuances of romance and relationship in the 20th century.
The film stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, and Saswata Chatterjee. Sharma had played a role in the earlier 2007 anthology as well.
Each couple navigates their own unique struggles. From rekindling a fading romance, handling issues of commitment, the avid transition from newly-weds to parents, and confronting the hesitation to find love in old age, the film tries to carefully weave these distinct stories into a cohesive anthology.
The film also features music by the National Award-winning composer Pritam. Back in 2007, his soundtrack for Life in a Metro had become a defining element of the film’s identity, with the song ‘In Dino’ garnering more that 11 million views on YouTube.
The new soundtrack also got much attention last week when the new song 'Zamaana Lage' released. The song is a modern take and honest attempt by Pritam to revive one of Qaisar Ul Jafari’s ghazals.
The film’s trailer was released on YouTube, along with the caption, “Har kahaani ek rishta hai, sheher se, waqt se, ya khud se.” Written and directed by Anurag Basu, the trailer progresses from a relatively happy start to a seemingly disastrous collapse by the end. It gradually peels through the emotional intricacies of each character and catches them in raw emotion.
“This city screws us over a lot more than it shows us love!” said the trailer.
The project is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Anurag Basu, Taani Basu and co-produced by Shiv Chanana.
