Nine-time Grammy winner Rihanna took to Instagram to share the new trailer for the upcoming Smurfs movie, set to release on July 18. Her new single, titled 'Friend of Mine', which will be a part of the film's soundtrack, is set to release on May 16th and is available to pre-save now, she explained.

The official trailer kicks off with Rihanna aptly dressed in a blue jacket, harmonising in the studio, and progresses towards the mystical Smurfs Village where the tragedy hits.

The movie revolves around the Smurfs venturing out into the real world under Smurfette’s (played by Rihanna) leadership to rescue Papa Smurf, who had been captured by the evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel.

The trailer also includes snippets from the song, where the star sings over a dreamy afrobeat-inspired dance track.

Directed by Chris Miller, the film features a star-studded cast including Sandra Oh, John Goodman, Marshmello, James Corden, Nick Offerman, Dan Levy and so on. The film's first song, 'Higher Love', which was released in February, is quite good too, including high-profile names like DJ Khalid, Cardi B, DESI TRILL, also featuring Indian talents Natania and Subhi.

The new trailer drops just a week after Rihanna attended the Met Gala along with her partner A$AP Rocky, who was one of the co-chairs this year. Walking on the Met carpet, she revealed her baby bump, officially announcing the couple’s third pregnancy.

This song marks Rihanna’s first release since ‘Lift Me Up' from 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' in 2022, which received much critical acclaim. The song also received prestigious nominations including Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards and the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
