The Empuraan team dropped a late-night surprise in the form of a nearly four-minute-long trailer, which was earlier slated for a Thursday noon launch. Lucifer fans woke up to an epic collage of images that give us a hint of where Mohanlal's Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab'raam will take us and the immense scale and scope of the storyline of the sequel that not only picks up from the climax of Lucifer, but also explores the backstories of some of the characters, most notably Prithviraj's Zayed Masood, the lieutenant of Stephen.
The trailer begins with a voiceover of the late PK Ramdas, whose demise opened the original film, saying it's not his children, but rather those who bear his legacy that become his children by default. Tovino Thomas returns as Jathin Ramdas, who now leads Ramdas' party. We are also introduced to a new character played by Suraj Venjaramoodu, seemingly the leader of a right-wing party. The trailer also hints at an emerging new threat in the form of Abhimanyu Singh's character.
The mystery around Stephen's origin story is once again teased in the trailer, with the events spread across the globe in locations such as Turkey, London, France, Yemen, Senegal, Iraq, and China. It appears the identity of another mystery villain is also being kept under wraps, the one with a dragon symbol on his jacket. The peak moment of the trailer is undoubtedly the scene where Stephen and Zayed are walking side by side in a fire-devastated landscape, confronting an unseen enemy.
Needless to say, the trailer makes it evident that the film's scale, which shifts between Kerala and international locations, is impressive given the large number of characters, drama, backstories, locations, vehicles, weapons, explosions, intrigue, action, stylish outfits (predominantly black), and much more...
Empuraan is backed by Aashirvad Cinemas in association with Sree Gokulam Movies.
